David
J.B. Jochnowitz is a fourth generation gardener in the English tradition,
getting his start on his grandfather's farm in England, "Barnes
Park." With a life-long interest in landscape design, he started
his own firm in 1988 in his hometown of Barnestable on Cape Cod.
In 1993, David was featured in Better Homes and Gardens
for an English perennial garden he had designed and installed. While
studying Ornamental Horticulture/Environmental Design at Delaware
Valley College in Doyelstown, Pennsylvania, he was the head of design
for the college's award winning displays at the Philadelphia Flower
Show in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
After
college, David sold his company on Cape Cod to pursue a career in
the Bucks County area of Pennsylvania. There, David learned more
about grading and the operation of heavy equipment. David also honed
his talents with stone, working both with the native stone and man-made
material.
In
2000, seeking a longer growing season, and wanting to be close to
the seashore again, David took a job in Maryland, with a company
that shared his attention to detail and superior construction. Homestead
Gardens was a place to learn which plants grow well in the Maryland
area, a climate that was new to him. He was also afforded the opportunity
to work on some premier projects that he is very proud of.
After
two years, David's entrepreneurial spirit drove him to create a
design firm that practiced excellence in design, until it became
a habit. As a designer/consultant, David develops his concepts and perspectives into master plans; then can continue working with the client through the
installation. David always looks forward to meeting with new clients,
and creating projects that will improve their lives.
